Pakistan defeat India at World Cup: Statistics and Records Pakistan defeat India at World Cup: Statistics and Records

India took on Pakistan in their opening match of the Super 12s stage of the 2021 T20 World Cup, and many expected them to go on to win easily. However, unfortunately for us India fans, this was not the case as Pakistan went on to win the match by 10 wickets - you could have won some very good money if you had bet on this outcome in online cricket betting!

Here are all of the records and stats from Pakistan's first World Cup win over their bitter rivals, India

1: Pakistan earned their first ever win against India at the T20 World Cup, having failed in their last five attempts to beat them. Also, it was the first time that Pakistan were victorious in a World Cup game, ODI or T20I, in 13 matches.

1: This was also Pakistan's first ever win by 10 wickets in T20Is and was also the first time that India have lost a T20I match by ten wickets. Pakistan are now only the fourth team ever to win a T20 World Cup match by ten wickets.

152: This is what Pakistan had to chase and it was the second highest successful chase in T20Is without the lost of a wicket. The highest successful chase belongs to New Zealand as they chased 169 without losing a wicket against Pakistan in 2016. Martin Guptil and Kane Williamson put on an opening partnership of 171 runs.

152*: Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan's unbeaten partnership is the highest opening partnership in the T20 World Cup. The previous record was held by Devon Smith and Chris Gayle against South Africa back in 2007. To add to this, it is the second-best partnership for any wicket at the T20 World Cup. Kumar Sangakara and Mahela Jayawardene hold the record thanks to their 166-run partnership against the West Indies in 2010.

3: There have been three 150-plus partnerships for Pakistan in this format of the game, and all three have been between Rizwan and Babar. Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma are the only other pair that have multiple 150-plus partnerships. Babar and Rizwan also became the first batting pair to score 150-plus against India in T20Is.

3: This is the number of runs that the Indian openers scored in this match, and this is their lowest aggregate score in a T20 World Cup. The lowest before this was five, which was against Pakistan in the 2007 edition.

79*: Rizwan's 79* is the highest for a Pakistan player on T20 World Cup debut. Before this game, Nasir Jamshed, with a 56 versus New Zealand in 2012, was the only Pakistani player to hit a fifty on T20 World Cup debut.

68*: Babar's 68* is the highest score by a captain of Pakistan at the T20 World Cup, surpassing the 57 that Shoaib Malik scored in 2007 against Pakistan. In addition to this, it is also the second-highest score for a captain on debut, only behind the 88 hit by Chris Gayle against Australia back in 2009.

21: This is the number of wickets that Shaheen Shah Afridi has picked up on the 59 times that he has bowled the first over of a T20 match. Since he made his debut in February of 2018, no other player has taken more than 13 wickets during the first over of a match.

614 This is number of T20I caps that Pakistan's playing XI had, making them the most experienced team in T20. The previous team with the most T20I experience was Bangladesh - when they played Scotland in the first stage of this competition, they had a starting XI that had 550 caps between them.

We got our T20 World Cup 2021 prediction wrong for this match but, in our defence, everything really did point towards an India win. Even the cricket betting odds were heavily in favour of yet another India win. Despite this disappointing setback, we fully expect Virat Kohli and his men to put this defeat behind them and bounce back in their next match.
