The End of a Long Tour?
England have been in South Africa since the 15th of December and it is fair to say that they have had a successful tour so far. Their test team managed to win the test series 3-1, despite losing the first match quite heavily. Not only did they win, but they also managed to blood some new talent in the test arena, which is always a positive. They then drew the 3-match ODI series 1-1 (one game was a washout) with an inexperienced squad missing some of the big names from their World Cup victory.
Now there are three T20I matches to conclude this long tour and we are going to back England finish on a high. Even if they do not, they can still fly back to England thoroughly satisfied with the work that they have done.
Which are the South Africa Players to Watch out For?
Quinton de Kock: No matter what format de Kock is playing in, he is one player that the opposition want to get out as quickly as possible. However, he is so great to watch, that the vast majority of the crowd, even those supporting the opposition are happy to watch him bat. If he gets going, England will find themselves chasing a big total.
Dale Steyn: He does not play test or ODI cricket anymore, so he will be eager to show the world that he still has what it takes to compete with some of the best players in the world. He has always caused the opposition problems and we expect his pace to cause issues for a number of England batsman. In the 44 T20I matches that he has played, he has an average of 17.50, which is mightily impressive.
Temba Bavuma: He has only played two T20Is, but he showed in the ODI series that he is very talented and has a wide range of shots. The England bowlers will want to get him out quickly so he does not have the chance to cause any damage.
England Players to Watch Out For
Adil Rashid: He has the ability to cause some of the best batsmen in the world a whole heap of issues (who can forget that magical ball that dismissed Virat Kohli a few years ago?) The main issue that many batsmen have when facing Rashid is that they cannot tell which way the ball will spin. South Africa will be wary of him.
Dawid Malan: To say that Malan can hit the ball miles would be a bit of an understatement. In the last T20I series against New Zealand, he was on fire and smashed 103* from 51 balls in the 4th match. South Africa will want to see the back of him quickly or they might have to just stand there and watch the ball sail into the crowd.
Jason Roy: Roy’s job at the top of the order is to get his team off to a flier and he usually succeeds. South Africa will want him back in the hutch before the powerplay is over or they will be looking down the barrel of another defeat to England.
Who Do We Think Will Win?
When we look at the two squads, we just think that England will have a bit too much for South Africa. We mentioned three players to watch out for above from each team, but we could easily have included another two or three from England’s squad.
