Australia Won the T20 Series Rather Comfortably
South Africa and Australia have recently played three T20I matches and Australia won the series 2-1 thanks to some thumping victories. In the first game they smashed 196 from their 20 overs and then bowled South Africa out for a mere 89 runs. Then in the third match, the Aussies hit 193 from their allotted 20 overs and then bowled South Africa out for 96 runs to win by 97 runs.
They will now play Australia in a three-match series and will be hoping to get some revenge. They actually have a very good ODI record against the Aussies, having won the last seven from eight ODI matches that they have played against each other. The last ODI match that these two sides played was during the group stage of the ICC Cricket World Cup – the Proteas won by ten runs which meant that Australia had to face England in the semi-final. They were easily beaten by the new World Champions.
Australia Players to Watch Out For
David Warner: Many cricket fans (unless they are Australian) will consider Warner to be one of the most annoying cricketers in the game. However, despite his annoying character, he is actually a very talented batsman (unless he is facing England’s Stuart Broad ).He has a great record against South Africa, having scored 943 runs against them at an average of 47.15. The Proteas will want to get him out before he gets going.
Pat Cummins: The South African batsmen got a taste of Cummins during the T20 series, but he will be able to bowl ten overs now per game instead of just the four. He has played 61 ODI matches and needs just two more wickets to collect his 100th scalp. In his last 5 ODI matches he has only collected 8 wickets, but the Saffers will know that he cannot be underestimated.
Steve Smith: He, like Warner, is also an unlikable guy, but he is one of the best batsmen in the world at this moment in time. He has scored just under 12,000 runs in his international career, so the South African bowlers will know that the key is to get him out early.
South African Players to Watch
Quinton de Kock: If there is one player that many cricket fans could watch bat all day, it has got to be de Kock. He is great to watch as he has a wide range of shots, but he is a nightmare for bowlers because they know that they will be punished if they get their delivery slightly wrong.
Kagiso Rabada: He is just 24 years old, but he has already played 75 ODI matches for South Africa and has picked up 117 wickets at an impressive average of 117. He is one of the best bowlers in the country at the moment and Australia will certainly be wary of him.
Lungi Ngidi: During the recent matches against England, Ngigi showed that he has a very bright future before him. In the first T20 match, he won the game for his country thanks to some fine death bowling. In the T20 series against Australia, he picked up another six wickets. Australia will not be taking him too lightly, that is for sure.
Who We Think Will Win
There are great players on both teams, but we just think that this Australian team is slightly better and is more consistent. Therefore, we are backing Australia to win this first ODI.
