The Tale of the Series So Far
India started their tour of New Zealand with a thumping 5-0 victory in the T20I series. New Zealand would have had nightmares about the ICC Cricket World Cup final during this series as India won two of the matches thanks to a Super Over – the exact way they lost the final to England (and their last T20I series against England). I think it is safe to say that New Zealand fans will be happy if they need to see a Super Over again.
New Zealand were clearly smarting from their whitewash at the hands of India and they came back fighting in the ODI series to win it 2-1. India’s tour of New Zealand will now conclude with two test matches that are due to start on the 21st of February and the 29th of February.
New Zealand Players to Look Out For
Kane Williamson: He is regarded as one of the best test cricket players in the world and for good reason. He has a great temperament and knows when to leave the ball and when to play. He can score all around the wicket as well. He is the wicket that the Indians will want the most.
Ross Taylor: He made his test debut in 2007 and he has gone on to become the leading run-score in test cricket for his country. In the 99 tests that he has played, he has scored 7,124 runs at an average of 46.28. The Indian bowlers might value Williamson’s wicket more, but Taylor’s wicket will not be far behind.
Trent Boult: He missed the T20I series and the ODI series because he broke his hand, but he is expected to be fit enough to take part in the test matches. India will be hoping that he fails a late fitness test because they are well aware that he has the skill to cause them all kinds of problems.
India’s Players to Look Out For
- Virat Kohli: He has not scored as many runs during this tour as he would have liked, but you can never bet against a man of his talent. New Zealand will know that if he manages to find his mojo, he will take the test match away from them in the space of a couple of sessions.
- Cheteshwar Pujara: Rahul Dravid was known as “The Wall” due to his ability to stick around for ages and it is fair to say that Pujara is the best replacement that India could have asked for. New Zealand will want to see the back of him as soon as possible because once he has settled in at the crease, he can be impossible to prise off.
- Jasprit Bumrah: He is a very canny bowler and we reckon that he will be able to get the most out of the New Zealand pitches. He will try to use his different bowling variations to force the New Zealanders to make a mistake and we reckon he will pick up a number of wickets over the two matches.
This is Our Match Prediction
India are the number one team in the world at test cricket and we just do not see New Zealand being able to overturn them. However, they will give them a good game, that is for certain.
