The Last Match Was No Contest

These two teams played against each other on Wednesday and it was a pretty embarrassing performance from the Perth Scorchers if we are being honest. The Scorchers won the toss and decided to bat first, but it was a decision that they were soon regretting as the Stars bowled them out for 86 runs with just 13.5 overs on the board. They then chased the total down with ease.

Adam Zampa and Peter Handscomb are still unavailable because they are on international duty, but we doubt that they would have played ever if they were. The current players have been playing so well that it would be harsh to drop any of them for a returning international player.

Who will their key players be?

  • Marcus Stoinis: He has been in some form recently, smashing 147* from 79s balls against the Sydney Sixers and he scored 39* when these two sides met on Wednesday. The Scorchers will need to get him out early if they want to stand any chance of winning.
  • Glenn Maxwell: If Stoinis doesn’t get you, then there is a very good chance that Maxwell will. He did not need to bat on Wednesday, but in his previous three matches, he has hit 83*, 59* and 40*.
  • Jackson Coleman: He picked up 3 wickets for just 16 runs on Wednesday, dismantling the Scorchers’ middle order in the process. The Stars will be hoping that he can bowl as well on Saturday.

Perth Scorchers Team News

Ashton Agar and Ashton Turner are unavailable still as they are also on international duty. Despite the fact that were annihilated by the same opposition last time out, we do not expect them to make many changes. After all, they had won they have won three of their last four matches, so have not been playing too badly.

Who will their key players be?

  • Liam Livingstone: Has score two half-centuries in the competition so far and has chipped in with a number of very useful wickets. He did not bowl against the Melbourne Stars on Wednesday, but maybe the captain was saving him, knowing the game was done and dusted.
  • Mitchell Marsh: He only managed 7 runs on Wednesday, but he has been in fine form with the bat. Before that he had scored 48, 21, 93* and 40. If they are to revenge their humiliation, he will need to fire.
  • Jhye Richardson: Bowled four overs for just 15 runs on Wednesday while his fellow bowlers were being carted all over the park. In the game before that, he picked up 4 wickets for 19 runs. He has 13 wickets in the competition so far and his teammates will be hoping he adds to that on Saturday.

Who Will Win?

We do not think that the Perth Scorchers will play as badly as they did on Wednesday, but we also do not think that they have the fire power to beat the Melbourne Stars. They are sitting pretty at the top of the table for a reason.
