Our match prediction

The last few group game matches of the 2021 IPL are set to take place and a number of teams that are fighting it out for a playoff spot have little to no room for error. The Mumbai Indians and the Rajasthan Royals both have ten points from the twelve matches that they have played so far. They both have two matches remaining, and they must win both of them. Even this might not be enough for them to qualify though as the Kolkata Knight Riders have a much better NNR than both teams. Will the Mumbai Indians be able to pull another rabbit out or have they left it too late? Read on, and find out our prediction for this match.

Rajasthan Royals Team Preview

Astonishing batting performances from Shivam Dube and Yashasvi Jaiswal helped the RR chase down what looked like a really tricky target to reach. They also made the decision to drop Liam Livingstone and bring in Glenn Phillips for the last game. This would not have been an easy decision for the team to make, given how much quality Livingstone has, but it could be one that pays off later in the competition.

Evin Lewis, David Miller, and Phillips help to add more strength to their batting lineup, and their Indian youngsters are also in pretty good touch and are scoring freely at the moment. However, whether you are happy to bet on the Indian lineup doing well against the mighty Mumbai Indians is a different matter altogether.

The Rajasthan Royals also made some changes to their bowling lineup - the likes of Mayank Markande and Akash Singh were given a game, but this could be because of some injury issues. There is a chance that we see a change in their bowling lineup once again for their match against the Mumbai Indians. The Rajasthan Royals have built solid momentum and are playing pretty well, but issues with the bowling and a slow surface could trip them up.

Mumbai Indians Team Preview

The Mumbai Indians took on the Delhi Capitals in their last match, but another poor performance with the bat cost them. Yeah, it is true that they had difficult conditions to bat in and that they lost the crucial toss, but a side with the quality that they have should have adapted much better.

We are not exaggerating when we say that none of the batsmen for the Mumbai Indians are in good touch. Rohit Sharma scored 7 from 10 balls in the last match, Saurabh Tiwary hit 15 from 18, Kieron Pollard scored 6 from 9, and Hardik Pandya hit 17 from 18. They really need their senior players to perform now, and we have seen them do it in the past when their backs were against the wall.

While their batsmen have been out of touch, their bowlers have not been performing too badly at all. For example, against the Delhi Capitals, Trent Boult only went at 6 runs an over and picked up a wicket, Nathan Coulter-Nile went at a measly 4.75 runs an over and also collected a wicket, while Jasprit Bumrah went at a respectable 7.25 runs an over and collected a wicket. These bowlers will definitely test out the skills of the batsmen for the Rajasthan Royals.

Toss Prediction

The team that goes ahead and wins the toss will opt to field first. Three of the last four games at the Sharjah Stadium were won by the side that chased. Thus, it is clear that batting second is a big advantage.

Pitch Conditions

The pitch during the most recent game between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Punjab Kings was much better than the majority of surfaces that have been made available. The fact is that the underlying nature of this surface is that it is slow and hard to bat on. The ball becomes tricky to hit when it gets old and the ability to accelerate in the last five overs or so has not been possible. When a team falls behind in their run chase, it becomes very tricky to catch up.

Our Match Prediction

We are going to put our money on the Mumbai Indians to be victorious in this match. Yes, they have been disappointing in the UAE to date, but their most recent game was played in Sharjah and they will be hoping to be better prepared for the different conditions. Their bowling attack should definitely be good enough to test the batting lineup of the Rajasthan Royals.

Our match prediction: Mumbai Indians to win.
