Our Match Prediction

The 34th match of the 2021 IPL will be played between the Mumbai Indians and the Kolkata Knight Riders. The Mumbai Indians are sitting in 4th place with four wins from eight games, while the Kolkata Knight Riders are just behind them with six points to their name. If they were to beat the Mumbai Indians, then they would move up into a play-off position courtesy of their better Net Run Rate. So, read our Indian Premier League Prediction to find out if we think that will happen.

Mumbai Indians

The Mumbai Indians began the second half of the 2021 IPL against the Chennai Super Kings, but did not get off to the ideal start as they went on to lose the match by 20 runs. The Mumbai Indians are known for being very slow starters, and this came back to bite them once again. They need to win this match because failure to do so will see them drop out of the top half of the table.

The Mumbai Indians will be hoping that they have their captain, Rohit Sharma available for this match as he missed the game against CSK because he is recovering from a slight niggle that he picked up during India's tour of England. Also, Hardik Pandya missed the CSK match because of a small injury, but their coach, Mahela Jayawardene, has confirmed that he will be available for selection. If both of them are fit to play, we expect to see them play. Sharma will more than likely take the place of Anmolpreet Singh, while Pandya could come in for his brother, Krunal Pandya.

Their bowling attack performed well against CSK, restricting them to 156/6 - they were 24/4 at one stage. Adam Milne was the pick of their bowlers, conceding just 21 runs from his four overs while picking up two wickets. Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah also bowled well and picked up two wickets apiece. To be honest, the main difference between the two sides was Ruturaj Gaikwad, who smashed 88 from 58 balls.

Kolkata Knight Riders

While the Mumbai Indians did not get off to the start that they would have hoped for, the Kolkata Knight Riders got their second half of the campaign off to a flyer by thrashing Virat Kohli's side by nine wickets and with 60 balls left. This unexpected win has lifted them into fifth place, but they need to keep up their winning ways if they want to maintain their aim of getting a ticket into the play-offs.

The match will take place at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, which was where they had their huge win over the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Since they have already played on this wicket and have experienced the conditions, they might already have a slight advantage over their opponents.

Their bowlers had a field day at this stadium last time out, especially Varun Chakravarthy and Andre Russell who picked up three wickets for 13 runs from four overs and three wickets for nine runs from three overs. Lockie Ferguson and Prasidh Krishna chipped in with some wickets as well.

Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer were in fine form against the RCB, with the former hitting 48 from 34 balls and the latter scoring 41 from 27 balls. They will be hoping to put in another fine performance once again to take the pressure off the middle order.

Toss Prediction

Seven of the last eight matches that have been played at this stadium have been won by the team that batted second. This is why it was quite surprising to see Kohli opt to bat first when he won the toss. If he had the chance to make his decision again, it is safe to say that he would probably opt to bowl first. We believe that the team that goes on to win the toss will decide to chase since it seems that there is an advantage in doing so.

Pitch and Conditions

You would think after the performance that the Royal Challengers Bangalore put in that this is a tricky wicket to bat on, but the fact that the Kolkata Knight Riders chased it down with ten overs to spare proves that it was a pitch that was good to bat on. Whoever bats first will probably have to score around 170 runs if they are to have any hope of going on to win the match.

Our Match Prediction

Many will probably bet on the Mumbai Indians to bounce back and win this match, but we are going to go against the grain here and say that the Kolkata Knight Riders will win the match. They are on a high at the moment after their huge win last time out and they already have experience of playing at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium. We feel that it will be a pretty close game, but that the Kolkata Knight Riders will come out on top and enter the play-off positions.
